Seniors' Hiking Club

The Toronto Seniors' Hiking Club offers a program of weekly hikes in all parts of Metropolitan Toronto, throughout the year. The hikes are scheduled each Wednesday, start at 11:00 a.m. at a TTC-accessible location and end around 3:00 p.m. A half-hour break is incorporated to eat a packed lunch. Weather permitting this break will be outside. Whenever possible the hikes are planned on trails and paths in the city's numerous parks, ravines and green belts, but occasionally part of the walk will be on city streets. A Hiking Schedule, which is provided to our members once every 2 months, indicates the different starting location of each weekly hike as well as the name and phone number of the person who will lead the hike.
Membership is available to active seniors, aged 55 or over and is $10 per year. When participating in the hikes, members are expected to be in good health and able to walk without assistance at a moderate speed. Members acknowledge that their participation is at their own risk and assume responsibility for their own well-being. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking along trails in parks and ravines, according to the weather and the season. Hikers should bring drinking water and their lunch. All hike leaders are volunteers from among the membership. The Club also organizes special events such as occasional bus hikes for day hiking trips outside the city, an annual summer picnic, a Christmas lunch, and other similar events.
